MonaCoin is an open source digital currency and a peer-to-peer (p2p) payment network. Dubbed by its creators as “the first Japanese cryptocurrency,” the coin has become somewhat of Japan’s national alternative to Bitcoin or Litecoin. Like its predecessors, the coin was created purely to serve as P2P electronic cash, a decentralized digital currency aimed at Japanese citizens. DigitalNote was originally released as ''duckNote'' by an anonymous individual or group of individuals under the pseudonym ''dNote'' in 2014. Over the years more advancements were added to the protocol, with each major upgrade rebranding the name of the protocol (first ''DarkNote'' and then ultimately ''DigitalNote''). Much like Bitcoin's ''Satoshi Nakamoto'', the original founder(s) vanished in 2017, leaving the open source code to be updated by a community team who have since continued development.'
